As Colombia’s biggest lake, Lake Tota spans 15,000 acres and offers incredible fauna and flora. Birding enthusiasts can explore many walking trails which carve through breeding grounds for over 145 species of bird—several of which are threatened or endangered. Furthermore, the lake has many white sand beaches—among these are Tota Lagoon and Playa Blanca, which is a well-known beach among tourists and watersports aficionados.
Activities at the lake and beaches include windsurfing, boating, water skiing, kayaking, and sunbathing. Those with a love for fishing should bring along their gear and embark on an amazing trout fishing adventure. Furthermore, there are several hiking trails from the town Sogamosa, which lead hikers to the 300-year-old town of Mongui. Here, glampers can admire the monastery built in the 18th century, the Basilica, the old town square, and the storied Calicanto bridge.
