Unique Yurt Rentals for an Unforgettable Group Getaway near Riverton, West Virginia

Yurt in Circleville, WV

16 guests

At 4,000 feet, there are multiple accommodations on offer that include Ulan Bator, our concentric yurt, and a shower shack located a short walk up a lighted path. With scenic views and remote tranquillity just feet below the highest point in West Virginia, visitors have the opportunity to backcountry or cross-country ski, snowshoe, sled, or simply enjoy the luxury of solitude. This is the perfect getaway for winter wilderness adventurers. Visitors must ski or snowshoe in during inclement weather events.

Right now, this property is only accepting one booking at a time, so guests can enjoy a completely private vacation. Ulan Bator is the center (literally and figuratively) of the Spruce Knob Mountain Center campus. During the winter months, this property generally takes a break from programming to allow the campus to hibernate. This is charming and fun but also implies that guests may need to ski or snowshoe into the place, carrying all personal supplies including food. Snowshoes and skis are available to rent if necessary.

Guests will have access to the main campus: main yurts, bathhouse, dorms, and two guest yurts. In addition to a full-size bed in the aerie of the main yurt (a small open-doored yurt within the library), there is the option for guests to stay in the dorms. There are two sets of dorms with four rooms filled with twin-sized beds and bunkbeds. In addition to the flat rate for the first four guests, there is a charge of $22 for each additional person.

In the kitchen, guests will find it is fully equipped with cooking oil and a large variety of spices, it has all kitchen appliances, such as a microwave, two ovens, a gas stove, and a stainless steel three-compartment sink, and just next to it is a small dining hall featuring four tables and benches.

There is also a library, bathhouse, and dormitories on site. The library is characterized by a double bed, large wood stove, dining area, rocking chair, window-facing desks, and as many books as the heart desires. It features a four-step ladder leading to the Aerie, a sleeping space with a double bed enclosed in an open-door yurt. The Aerie also includes a star-gazing window, making it the perfect place for astronomy lovers on a cold winter night.

The bathhouse includes two separate sides, each containing three showers and four toilets, electric heating on each side, towels and toiletries are supplied.

The dormitories consist of two buildings housing up to 40 total people, with bunk beds with twin mattresses and of course bedding provided.

This is 400 acres nestled in nearly a million acres of the Monongahela National Forest. It can be really cold and snowy here! Access is on foot once the road is covered with snow. During major snow events, the county may be slow to plough the access road leading to the main gate, too, so folks should be prepared to be in a place where nature is still in charge. If weather conditions make the roads impassable for whatever is being driven, a shuttle service is possible, but for an additional fee. Snowshoes and skis are available to rent.
