The city of Veneta is located in Lane County, Oregon, just a stone’s throw from Fern Ridge Lake. The lake is very popular for water sports and activities, including kayaking, sailing, fishing, and swimming. The surrounding area is called Fern Ridge Wildlife Area, which is a great spot for bird watching. The wildlife area also contains several parks with picnic areas, hiking trails, and some canoe and kayak access to the wetlands. Wine connoisseurs should definitely stop by Sarver Winery, which is just a short drive out of town. The slightly larger city of Eugene is also nearby, just half an hour to the east. Veneta is the site of the annual Oregon Country Fair, which started in 1970.
