There's beach access just down the street at Freeland Park, where there are gentle waves on the beach and a playground for the little ones. On Whidbey Island, there are more than 100 miles of hiking and biking trails to explore. Taking a tour at one (or many) of the local wineries is a wonderful way to experience the culture. A visit to the Earth Sanctuary, a 72-acre nature reserve and spiritual retreat where paths weave through a sculpture garden and a lush old-growth forest, is sure to inspire a peaceful feeling. Double Bluff Beach, a designated off-leash park, is the perfect place for dogs and their owners to spend a day together enjoying the sun, sand, and waves. A ferry ride from Coupeville to Port Townsend, Washington’s Victorian seaport and arts community, is a unique experience not to be missed.
