It is situated mere minutes away from Karangahake Gorge, a site that's as rich with natural beauty as it is with human history, being a crucial mining spot during the New Zealand gold rush in the 19th century. There is a lovely restaurant just down the road and a pub/restaurant nearby. Inside the town is a collection of tasty cafes and restaurants to discover, with even more shopping and dining opportunities available from the next town over, Paeroa. If guests continue to follow State Highway 2 eastward, they'll come across the community of Waihi, also known for its gold mining history but even more famous for its beautiful beachside area. It's only half an hour by car until Bowentown, a town that straddles a peninsula with the mighty Pacific Ocean on one side and the tranquil Shelley Bay on the other, and it is worth the trip. Auckland Airport, New Zealand's busiest transport hub, is located around an hour and a half's drive away and features a variety of overseas and domestic connections.

Guests are highly recommended to take a tour through the Crown Mines adjacent to the town, so they can learn more about the important history of this region, as well as explore some unforgettably pretty natural zones (glow worms take residence inside the mines nowadays). Surrounding the mines is an intricate network of hiking trails that take guests through the Karangahake Gorge as well as along the Ohinemuri and Waitawheta Rivers. Guests will encounter unique wildlife and beautiful waterfalls on their treks, and they are well worth the challenge. Back at the property, guests can request to be part of feeding sessions with the alpacas and goats that roam the surrounding countryside, as well as join traditional Maori canoeing trips during the summer. For those wanting to hit the fairways and greens, nearby Paeroa Golf Club provides a course that's as challenging as it is picturesque.
