The Mudcastle is nestled in the picturesque Neudorf Valley, a 45-minute drive from Nelson city. It offers self-catering accommodation in a stunning location, perfect for couples seeking complete privacy or for small groups wanting a unique getaway.
Hand-built using local materials by owners Kevin & Glenys, it’s surrounded by beautiful gardens which you’re welcome to relax in & minutes away from the region’s iconic wineries and many other attractions.
The owners live in separate quarters on the property. They will be there to welcome you and answer any questions you may have. Your group will be the only guests staying at the Mudcastle and you will have exclusive use of the entire Castle.
There are 3 suites with ensuite bathrooms. Additionally, the castle features 5 bedrooms all sharing three additional bathrooms comprising 3 toilets, 3 showers & 1 bath. All rooms have fluffy robes & slippers, complimentary toiletries & towels & heating. There’s a comfortable lounge area & library.

We encourage you to visit The Mudcastle website for full details on our unique accommodation. Up to 16 guests can spread out across 8 bedrooms. Up to 4 additional guests are permitted by arrangement only, on rollaway beds added to existing room configuration at $55 per bed per night.
# 1 The Peach Suite - queen bed & ensuite. Separate entrance, kitchenette & small dining area plus private plunge pool. Tea & coffee facilities.
#2 The Gold Turret - queen bed & ensuite. Located away from the main Castle. Tea & coffee facilities. The plush ensuite bathroom is located down a spiral staircase.
First Floor Suite & Rooms all offer beautiful views and space to relax.
#3 The Rose Suite - king bed, single bed & ensuite. Tea & coffee facilities.
#4 The Green Room - queen bed, shared bathroom facilities.
#5 The Yellow Room - double bed, shared bathroom facilities.
#6 The Pink Room - queen bed, shared bathroom facilities.
#7 The Apricot Room - single bed, shared bathroom facilities.
#8 The Lilac Room - twin single beds, shared bathroom facilities.
Rooms 7&8 are accessed via a second staircase.

The site is about 40 minutes from the city of Nelson and it is five hours north of Christchurch. The journey from Wellington takes about six and a half hours with ferry transportation included.
