Eco-Casitas on Secluded Island, Granada, Nicaragua
The casitas are two-level accommodations. One the first floor, you have a living room that connects to an outside deck complete with an oversized hammock and comfy furniture overlooking the beautiful lake. On the second floor you will find a bedroom featuring a king size bed. The accommodation has an ensuite bathroom a with hot shower, sink and toilet. The accommodation and the furniture are constructed from Rainforest Alliance certified wood. Private room service for early morning coffee and sundowners is available upon request. Moreover, each accommodation comes with mosquito netting, ceiling fans, and large doors and windows for ventilation.
The Restaurant - The hosts strive to give their guests a memorable culinary experience. Breakfast and lunch are served a la carte and dinner is a choice of fresh specials that vary on a daily bases. The lodge has an open kitchen right next to the restaurant, so the guests can observe the chef preparing the dishes. The menu offers fresh fish from the lake and nearby ocean, local vegetables and fruits, and locally farmed chicken and beef.
Yoga - A trained instructor offers daily yoga sessions on the deck overlooking the lake and towards to Mombacho volcano.
Massage and Spa Treatments - The lodge provides guests with an assortment of massage and wellness treatments, such as Swedish and Shiatsu massage, Hot Stone treatment. The treatments will be performed in open air treatment rooms with private showers.
The Swimming Pool - A spacious swimming pool with a lounge including sun loungers invites guests to soak for hours and sunbathe and swim in peace and quiet.
Sustainability - The lodge has introduced eco-conscious practices that are in harmony with its surrounding environment. This and supporting the local community were key considerations in the development of Jicaro Island Ecolodge. Here are a few examples of how this retreat is sustainable:
Water is heated with solar panels for guest and kitchen use.
No air conditioning is installed on the island. Cross ventilation and ceiling fans create a cooling effect and ensure comfort.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The lodge is actively recycling and most importantly reducing waste due to the island location. Guests are asked to bring as little trash to the island as possible.
Wastewater is treated with a treatment plant that complies with national and international accredited standards.
Hiring of a local staff in order to raise the living standards of the community. The lodge is also subcontracting services, buying and producing locally.
Use of organic and biodegradable soaps, cleaning detergents and spa products.
Chlorine free systems to clean the pool water.
Energy efficient lighting on the whole island.
Underground electricity system that does not interfere with the unique wildlife.

Sunrise or Sunset Kayaking - Paddle out in a kayak and explore the flora and fauna. You will also pass by a narrow canal full of water lilies and explore the native birdlife and turtles.
Birdwatching Tour - In your kayak, you will discover the little islands that are the natural habitat of the birds. The birdlife includes Montezuma’s Oropendula, Ringed Kingfisher, Purple Gallinule, Northern Jacana and more. Bring the bird flash card from your casita and binoculars!
Isletas Boat Tour - On this tour you will get to know the beautiful islands and pristine landscapes around the lodge. The hosts pack a cooler with drinks for you to enjoy during your trip. Towels are available in the boat so feel free to cool off in the big lake.
Canopy Tour - You will leave in the morning or afternoon in a boat to the main port, where a guide will pick you up and take you to Canopy Miravalles. Follow the guide's instructions and slide down in the cables. The guides will also show you cool tricks like zipping upside down.
Full Day Mombacho and Canopy - This is a more adventurous activity. You will hike the Mombacho natural reserve, climb to “La Roca”, a look out point affording amazing views of Granada’s Islands, Zapatera and the volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua. During your break you will enjoy a hearty picnic lunch. The zip line tour uses 11 platforms for over 66 ft.
Traditional Fishing - You will boat around the quaint 'islets' and learn techniques used in artisanal fishing. You might catch a good fish like tilapia, snook or rainbow bass. Bring back home your catch and the chef will prepare a delicious meal for you.
Volcán Mombacho Tour - You will leave after breakfast and take a walk in the Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve. You will take a ride from Granada to the foot of Mombacho Volcano in a 4x4 vehicle, then stop half way at a coffee farm for a cup of coffee. At the top of the volcano, you will visit the biological station. You will head to the forest on “El Crater, Tigrillo or Puma Trail” and observe trees that are covered by orchids and bromeliads. The trail has a great view of Lake Nicaragua and the island.
Granada City Tour - Discover the famous city of Granada. During your guided tour, you will explore the relevant attractions, colonial buildings and the San Francisco Museum, which showcases indigenous ceramic and statue collections.
Classic Masaya and Catarina - During this guided tour visit the Masaya Volcano National Park, famous for the active Santiago crater. Next, you will head to the ecological museum and Nicaragua's most popular open-air handcraft market in Masaya. Then you will drive to Catarina, a traditional town where ornamental plants and flowers are grown. This location affords impressive panoramic views over the Apoyo Lagoon. The last stop is San Juan de Oriente to watch artisans making their traditional pottery.
Horseback Riding - After breakfast and a boat ride to the foot of the volcano you will saddle your horse and ride from the Calera farm through plantain, cacao, coffee and citrus fruit plantations and the tropical forests. At a viewpoint at the top, you’ll enjoy a picnic and have a relaxing swim in the hot spring before heading back down.
Masaya Volcano, Handicraft Market & Apoyo Lagoon - Visit the Masaya Volcano National Park and the active Santiago crater, the ecological museum, Nicaragua's most popular open-air handcraft market located in Masaya, and at last, Apoyo lagoon natural reserve, famous for the cleanest water in the country. Jump into the warm water and have a relaxing swim!
Sustainability Tour - A guide will walk you through all the sustainable actions that happen around the island. The hosts can also arrange trips to neighboring islands where the lodge is involved in supporting local schools.
Romantic Dinner on Floating Deck - At sunset, the hosts will prepare a candlelight dinner on the lake atop a floating deck. Dinner includes a 3 course menu for 2 and a bottle of wine.
