The county’s gently rolling landscapes speckled with picturesque towns and villages have inspired a range of well-known artists, for example, Constable who is famous for his paintings of Dedham which is not far from St Osyth, and Wivenhoe, a quaint village nearby which offers beautiful views and is home to some beautiful pottery artists.
Vibrant seaside towns, such as Frinton and Walton, merge with quiet, isolated beaches that in turn become networks of tidal inlets and estuaries—rich in wildlife and perfect for a relaxing day out. The towns of Brightlingsea and Mersea offer lovely day trips, where guests can watch the local boats racing on a Sunday at Brightlingsea. They can also take a trip across the Strood to Mersea (watch out for high tide!) and go for a walk along the beach, all before enjoying some delicious fresh seafood from The Company Shed restaurant.
