Dauphin

Dauphin, Pennsylvania, is a small village on the outskirts of the state capital, Harrisburg, and is a great location from which to explore that city’s range of cultural attractions which include a state capitol building based on the basilica of St Peter’s in Rome, one of the oldest continuously open farmers’ markets in America, historic forts, the Susquehanna Art Museum and the National Civil War Museum. However, for glampers who wish to explore the more rural side of the Keystone State, Dauphin is handily situated for access to wild areas on the edge of the northern Appalachians such as the Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area and Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area which preserve hardwood forests that are home to deer, wild turkey, and bears among other fauna, and offer a variety of hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails to explore the backwoods.
