Scenic views
This cottage is located in Hale, Michigan, where it is situated on the northeastern shores of Stylus Lake, one of the 60 lakes and ponds that dot the rural landscape of the surrounding area, which is largely composed of woods, streams, and farmland Fringed by forests and boasting 179 acres of surface area, the pristine waters of the lake are inhabited by black crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, and northern pike, making it a prime spot for fishing, boating, and water sports. Canoes, kayaks, and rowboats can be rented from the Logan Hills Campground, which is just a third of a mile down the road.
To the north, guests will find Huron National Forest. Encompassing 437,287 acres of woodlands punctuated by lakes and rivers, the national forest contains an abundance of jack pines, which provide an important habitat for the Kirtland's warbler, a small, yellow-chested songbird that nearly went extinct 50 years ago, but has since recovered thanks to careful management of the pines in which it makes its nests. Other points of interest in the forest include Iargo Springs, the Lumberman's Monument, the River Road National Scenic Byway, and the Highbanks River Trail, the last two of which follow along the banks of the Au Sable River, a designated trout stream that is a popular destination for fishing, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. Every summer, the stream hosts the annual Au Sable River Canoe Marathon, which is one of the oldest canoe races in the United States.
The cottage is about an hour and 50 minutes from Flint, where guests will find the nearest international airport.
