The park provides convenient access to Big River, where guests can go canoeing, swimming, and fishing. Hiking, swimming, and fishing trails and areas can also be found at Washington State Park, with even more hiking trails to be found at White Rock Nature Preserve, Salt Lick Point Land and Water Reserve, and Mastodon State Historic Site, where guests can also visit a museum containing ancient artifacts and fossils.
In the nearby towns of Festus, Crystal City, and Kimmswick, guests will find a variety of options for antiquing, shopping, dining, and wine tasting. Festus also has city parks where guests can walk on short trails, picnic, and play disc golf and tennis.
