Guests will find additional trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding and five lakes for swimming, fishing, kayaking, and boating at Custer State Park. Both the forest and the park provide ample opportunities for wildlife viewing and birdwatching as well, with a range of species to be spotted, including mule deer, elk, bison, prairie dogs, coyotes, cougars, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, river otters, bald eagles, ospreys, and peregrine falcons.
For rock climbing, guests can head to the spectacular pinnacles, spires, crags, and cliffs of the Needles. For more aerial adventure, guests can visit Rushmore Tramway Adventures, where they will find a zip line, a ropes course, an alpine slide, and a scenic chairlift.
Last but certainly not least, no trip to the region would be complete without visiting attractions such as Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, and Crazy Horse Memorial.
