Sugar City, Colorado

Scenic views
This glamping site is located right on the edge of scenic Lake Meredith, nestled in cozy Sugar City in Crowley County, Colorado. Three Dog Night Guesthouse was established in 2008. It earned its name from three beloved Labrador Retrievers, but for music enthusiasts, "three dog night" sparks memories of the popular 1970s rock 'n roll band. Native Arctic folklore has it that when a night was especially cold, three dogs were used as bed warmers, making it a "three dog night". Likewise, the guesthouse is warm and peaceful, surrounded by the tranquility of the prairies in Southeast Colorado.

Known for its integral part in the history of the Great Plains, Sugar City was home to the National Sugar Beet Company. Guests can visit Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, a trading post on the Santa Fe Trail, or the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, where they can learn more about the pivotal 1864 clash between the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the U.S. Government. Visit one of the largest documented dinosaur trackways in North America, with over 1300 visible tracks. Come and explore these creatures of the past on the Comanche National Grassland.

Sugar City is also just an hour away from Pike and San Isabel National Forests, with stunning hiking trails through the lush mountains and forests in the area. St. Charles' Peak, a popular destination for more serious hikers, is a 2.5 hour drive to the west, in Beulah Valley.

Whether relaxing in the hammock or gazing at the beautiful Colorado prairie from the guesthouse's lounge chairs, the front yard of this glamping site is a tranquil getaway with a view. With Lake Meredith a mere 100-yards away, guests can grill on the waterfront while watching the sunrise, sunset, or a dip into the lake for an afternoon swim. Nearby boat ramps allow for motorboat and jet ski access. Kayak, canoe, and paddle board access is available right off the shore. Anglers will find ample opportunities to fish for hours on end at the nearby Ordway Reservoir and Olney Springs Reservoir. Both are closed to boaters, but the reservoirs are excellent for catching trout in the spring and fall, and catfish and bass in the summer.

Crowley County is renowned for its bird watching, with various species of birds flocking to the lake with the transition of the seasons. Lake Henry, just 3 miles to the north, also allows for water vehicles and those carrying a fishing license to take advantage of the body of water.

With the San Isabel National Forest just an hour away, visitors will also be able to choose from a range of hikes, climbing to panoramic views from trails of various levels of difficulty. The area is historic, unique, and diverse in its landscape, so guests will never run out of things to do while staying in Sugar City.
