Cozy and Secluded Western Cabin in Sandpoint's Pastoral Selle Valley, Idaho

Cabin in Sandpoint, ID

6 guests • 4 beds

New

Decorated in a Western rustic theme, this 3-bedroom, 2-bath home with an outdoor hot tub is located in the beautiful Selle Valley north of Sandpoint, Idaho. Cozy, comfortable and secluded, yet close to town, the lake and Schweitzer. The house's location is super private and quiet on 10 treed acres with views of the mountains, yet is only 15 minutes from downtown Sandpoint.
The house is a well-apportioned, 1,360-square-foot space that sleeps up to 6 with a queen bed in the master bedroom, a full size bed in the second bedroom and a full size sleeper sofa in the third bedroom, which also serves as the TV/family room. The queen mattress is a firm all-foam mattress with an optional topper, and the full-size mattress is medium firm all-foam mattress -- both very comfortable! The main bathroom includes a unique neo-angle shower stall constructed of slate and metal and doubles as the laundry room. The master bedroom features a beautiful, deep, 5-foot-long cast iron tub minted in 1923. The flooring is a mix of bamboo, acid-stained concrete, slate and carpeting. The home features modern, custom-built and vintage furniture, specialty tile and rock work, and artisan touches throughout. The house was recently redecorated in a Western rustic theme and includes luxurious furnishings, lots of beautiful artwork and custom paint jobs. The fully stocked kitchen features concrete counter tops and a fabulous, genuine copper penny backsplash, with seating for three around the island and six at the trestle table. A TV lover I am not, so I don't have satellite service, but I do have a TV on a wall mount in the family room, plus lots of DVDs and VHS movies for guests to enjoy. If you must watch the latest news or sports game, this may not be the place for you; however, there is wireless Internet (Frontier broadband DSL, high-speed unlimited use) and the closest sports bar and grill is only seven miles away. The house includes lots of games, plus a large vinyl and CD collection, so families can enjoy spending quality time together. The house is heated primarily by the wood stove, but it also has electric heat in every room. Nothing feels better than wood heat! The Blaze King stove is a new model with a glass door so guests can watch the fire. Mesmerizing and relaxing! While the house is lovely, the best part may be the outdoor hot tub under the stars! The hot tub is only about 50 steps away from the house and is not visible from the house, nor the camping cabin.

The Selle Valley is a very desirable neighborhood north of Sandpoint. The house sits in the heart of the valley where the land is zoned agricultural. When people come to my property, they love the rural setting surrounded by hay fields and views of two mountain ranges, the peace and quiet, and the beauty of the woods. No neighbors are within view; the closest neighbors are 600 feet away. The RV site and camping cabin are about 250 feet away from the house and not within sight. The house and RV site/cabin have their own driveways and that adds to the privacy. Sandpoint and the surrounding towns of Dover, Kootenai and Ponderay have a free SPOT bus. Amtrak has the only stop in Idaho at the Sandpoint depot. Rental cars are available in Sandpoint or at the Spokane international Airport. Sandpoint Airport has a 6,000-foot paved runway. The cabin is located 7 miles from the town of Ponderay, where you'll find Walmart, Bonner Mall, restaurants and many other shops. It's another two miles to downtown Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille, or about a 15-minute drive via U.S. Highway 95.

Guests enjoy the outdoor spaces, too, from a covered porch and stamped concrete deck to a paver patio that includes handmade benches made with pickup tailgates and a beautiful chiminea for relaxing by an outdoor fire. Campwood is provided. A walking trail takes guests over two bridges and through the woods. Horseshoe pits are in the yard across from the outdoor hot tub. The property includes an RV site and camping cabin, accessed by a separate driveway, that would allow the possibility of group retreats. You may see other guests from time to time, but the cabin and house are not within sight of each other. The camping cabin is open year-round, whereas the RV site is available April through October. Outdoor hot tub, patio with chiminea, horseshoe pits. Barn, round pen and fenced area for horses. Walking trail on-site. I like to greet guests when they arrive and show them around the house and property, orienting them to the wood stove, hot tub and other features. I really enjoy meeting my guests and visiting with them, but I'm not intrusive or a busy body. I love offering advice/tips and sharing my knowledge of the area to help them get the most out of your stay. My aim is to interact with guests as much as possible or as little as desired.

Additional info

Guests who misuse the hot tub are subject to a cleaning fee and possibly the cancellation of their reservation. A $200 fee will be charged if I have to drain/clean/refill the hot tub and add new chemicals to it. If you bring horses, it's an extra $10 per head per night to feed out of my barn. Firewood is provided for the wood stove and outdoor chiminea. If there's anything you forgot or anything you need, don't be afraid to ask. This is a rural neighbourhood in snow country, and the drive includes 1.4 miles of gravel county road and 2 miles of paved county road. While the county does a good job maintaining the roads, guests may encounter snow-packed surfaces and the possibility of fresh snowfall before the county ploughs following a winter storm. Thankfully, there are no hills or curves to negotiate. I mostly commute with a front-wheel drive car with snow tires in winter, although I do also have a four-wheel-drive pickup that I can utilize as needed. I have a 1,200-foot-long, level driveway that we plough and maintain ourselves, but guests may have to deal with fresh snowfall until we are able to plough after a storm. I would recommend that guests be prepared for driving in snow, with good tires, front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
