The largest coastal town between Portland and San Francisco, Eureka, California has tons to offer the intrepid traveler. It lies along the shores of Humboldt Bay, the second largest bay in California, and was named Eureka (meaning “I have found it” in Greek) after gold was discovered. The entire city is a state historic landmark, with tons of Victorian buildings preserved. Visit for one of the numerous annual cultural events, or check out the Humboldt Bay Wildlife Refuge while sailing or paddleboarding. One of the best nearby attractions is the Redwood National Park, where glampers can hike and admire the ancient beauty of these giant trees. For more hiking, head east to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. All glamping trips to California should include Eureka.
