There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. The Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness is over 13,000 acres and offers over 50 miles of trails through the mountains which soar above the Sonora desert. The Nature Center provides a lot of local historical and geographical information for tourists. In April, Idyllwild is an ideal place to stay for visitors to the Coachella music festival. The area is also well known as a hub for South California wineries. The Middle Range Winery goes above and beyond, offering a 4000 square-foot "Tasting Gallery" which features the winery's award-winning wines, gourmet light bites, art exhibits, and live music in a rustic, yet elegant environment. The Joshua Tree National Park is the result of the merger of two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado. As well as abundant cacti, the park also supports the California tree frog, the red-spotted toad, golden eagles, and roadrunners, amongst other wildlife.
