Boutique Nature Retreat in the Palomar Mountains
Escape to the peaceful beauty of Palomar Mountain in this private wall tent at the Ranch, a 67-acre off-grid sanctuary surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest. Perched 3,600 feet above sea level, this serene retreat combines the rustic charm of nature with the comfort of a cozy, well-appointed glamping space.
Inside, the wall tent features a comfortable queen bed with fresh linens and soft lighting that creates a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Step outside and breathe in the crisp mountain air, surrounded by towering oak trees and sweeping views that stretch across the valley — and on clear days, all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Guests enjoy access to most of the ranch, including scenic walking trails and a yoga deck overlooking the valley. Outdoor showers are available for stays of two nights or more, and BBQ areas can be arranged upon request. Whether you’re hiking the property’s trails, meditating at sunrise, or stargazing under Palomar’s clear night sky, this is the perfect place to slow down and reconnect with nature.
The ranch is completely off-grid, powered by solar and sustained by its own artesian well water first claimed in 1892. A 24-hour Camp Host is available on-site to assist with anything you need, and propane tent heaters can be rented for cooler evenings.
The journey here is part of the experience — After turning off CA-76, you’ll have about 6 scenic miles to go before reaching the Ranch. The first mile of the road is paved, followed by approximately 5 miles of well-maintained gravel along Nate Harrison Grade Road. This road can be rough and single-lane in places, but it’s usually passable in a well-maintained passenger car. Please drive slowly, bring plenty of gas, and ensure your brakes are in good shape for the descent. You’ll know you’ve arrived at the entrance when, just before a sharp left switchback, you see a stone memorial to the ranch’s namesake, Nate Harrison, on the right side of the road, along with the name of the Ranch sign, and rewards you with expansive views and a true sense of escape.
Whether you come to hike, explore, or simply unwind, your stay at the Ranch offers peace, privacy, and a deep connection to the mountain’s natural beauty.
We are proud stewards of the Ranch, a 67-acre off-grid retreat high on Palomar Mountain. Our vision is to share this unique place — where history, nature, and serenity meet — with guests who are looking for more than just a getaway. Powered by solar and fed by our artesian well, the ranch is designed to be self-sustaining while offering modern comforts in a natural setting.
Our team lives and works on the property, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and peaceful environment for all who visit. A Camp Host is available 24 hours a day to assist with anything you might need. Whether you’re here for a weekend of hiking, stargazing, or simply slowing down, we look forward to making your stay relaxing and memorable.
