This unusually named town is in northern California right below the Oregon border. The strong winds here were recognized by Abner Weed as great for drying lumber in the late 19th century, so he bought a sawmill and subsequently the town was named for him. Weed is a great place to plant yourself while fishing for trout in the nearby Klamath, McCloud and Sacramento Rivers. Glampers can also use these rivers for kayaking, boating, or swimming in the cold snow fed waters. Mountain climbers should head straight to Mount Shasta, one of the tallest mountains in California. There are tons of other hiking trails in Castle Crags State Park, Lava Beds National Monument, and Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. Go alpine or cross country skiing in the winter, or view the waterfalls, lakes, and streams in the summer, like Stewart Mineral Springs. Come to Weed, California for the start of a great outdoor adventure.
