A few miles away is Goat Island, which is a great place to experience the ocean around Galveston Bay and East Bay. Guests can take a quick drive up to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and marvel at the rescued and rehabilitated wildlife. Less than two hours away is the energetic city of Houston where guests can visit one of the many tourist attractions such as Space Center Houston or Wet'n'Wild SplashTown.

There is a wide range of activities and adventures for everybody to enjoy on the Bolivar Peninsula. Guests can spend the day swimming or simply sunbathe at Crystal Beach. Visitors often take a scenic walk along the sandy shores and cast a fishing line off one of the many jetties around. Golf enthusiasts will want to hit the nine-hole green at Rancho Carribe Golf Course, which features sensational views. Birding enthusiasts flock to this part of the Texas Gulf Coast on an annual basis, visiting the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge only 40 miles away, where fall and winter see some of the most majestic birds migrate to the area. Music lovers will want to visit the Stingaree Restaurant and Marina or the HardHeads Icehouse and Grill, who routinely welcome first-class rock and rollers, as well as country bands from all over the state.

In August, every year, the massive Golf Cart Poker Run parade happens. The use of golf carts is so prevalent in the town that the parade includes more than 200 golf carts and culminates with a live auction and an award for the best-decorated golf cart.
