St. George Island
St. George Island in Florida enjoys a privileged position with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Apalachicola Bay on the other, which means that it has a 28-mile stretch of beach on one of the last inhabited barrier islands that have managed to remain unspoiled and retain its natural beauty. This is one of the top rated beaches in the country, with its pristine white "sugar" sand, crystal-clear water, and perfect weather year-round. There is also the excellent St. George Island State Park, with its rolling dunes, or Tate's Hell State Forest Park, which is one of Florida's largest state forests. And all of this a short drive from the historic and charming Apalachicola with its excellent antiquing, boutiques, and eateries. The nearest airport is the Tallahassee Regional Airport.
