Luxury Holiday Rental in a Gorgeous Former Winery on the Costa de Prata in Portugal
This recently renovated holiday rental on the Costa de Prata in Portugal is built in the former building where the wine was made and kept. It is a spacious rental and suitable for two to five people. In the main bedroom, there is a plush double bed and two wardrobes. There is an extra bedroom, in which there are single beds. Guests also have a toasty wood-burner for chilly winter nights. The bathroom is simple but functional and consists of a toilet, a shower, and a vanity unit. There is also a bath for a baby if needed.
The accommodation has a kitchen with a sink, a fridge, a cooker, a coffee machine, and a microwave. Crockery and pans are all provided and the host also provides towels and tea cloths. The sitting room has a modern dining table and four chairs, a leather two-seater, and an easy chair. A large bookcase, with a huge choice of Dutch and English books, divides the sitting room from the bedroom. There are French doors which open out to a large veranda 16 meters long.
In the garden, there is an outdoor kitchen, named the 'Keukenhof." There is a barbecue, as well as a big table and chairs to cook and eat lunch and/or dinner al fresco. The plunge pool also makes the perfect spot to cool off on hot summer days.
During the high season, guests' stay will end with a communal meal, the 'Sardinhada". This includes delicious sardines, good wine, and good company. Every guest is welcome to participate!
All of the retreats have their own private terrace with a gorgeous view over the garden and the valley with the orchards. The garden is huge with a labyrinth and beautiful views over the pastures and fruit trees.
There is also a plunge pool where glampers cool down on those hot summer days.
The hosts have donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, cats, dogs, and even a big turtle that guests can get to know while staying at this unique site.

The climate is excellent year round so depending on when guests go, they can either take a walk among the blossoming fruit trees in March, see the ancient dinosaur footprints in May, experience the spectacular cliffs of Salir do Porto in June, or see the wonderful old Convents of Alcobaca and Batalha in autumn. The beautiful walk through the spa town of Caldas da Rainha, where glampers can visit the thermal baths of Queen Leonor, might also be an option. Finally, there is a special tour of all the terraces along the beach.

The property was built in 1153 and is connected with the foundation of the state. The well-known story of lovers King Pedro and Ines de Castro stems from here. Caldas da Rainha, which means hot water baths of the Queen, is also nearby. Every morning, there is a fruit market on the Praça da Fruta.
10 minutes from Caldas, glampers can visit Óbidos. Óbidos is a beautifully restored town, totally surrounded by walls, and the citizens of Óbidos often organize all kinds of events. Being in Portugal means there are lots of festivals with lots of dining and wining.
The food in Portugal is absolutely marvelous. If guests don't like to cook for themselves, they can always go to a restaurant. There are so many possibilities and eating out is always cheap. There are numerous typical Portuguese restaurants where the portions of meat or fish can be enormous! The owner’s personal favorite is Dona Alentejano. The quality of the food is very good and the atmosphere is charming. Guests shouldn't forget to eat at a fish restaurant on the beach in Bom Succeso.
