This North Island glamping retreat is nestled in the countryside in the locale of Tiniroto, halfway between the city of Gisborne and the town of Wairoa which are each around 50 minutes away. Gisborne offers a vibrant community with many eateries, cultural activities, and wineries to enjoy close to the accommodation. Wairoa also has a friendly community, as well as an abundance of sites of natural beauty.

From exploring the local area to planning adventures in the stunning great outdoors, glampers will have so much to choose from during their stay in Tiniroto. Glamping here means guests will be in the Gisborne/Wairoa area where there are many sites of natural beauty including, Te Urewera National Park and Lake Waikaremoana, which contains the largest untouched expanse of native forest in the country.

Other sites include Mahia Peninsular, Whakiki Lagoon, Clonkeen Caves, the Hackfalls Arboretum, and the Morere Reserve and Hot Springs. The nearby city of Gisborne offers chances to enjoy art and culture at the Tairawhiti Museum. The local community has many eateries, shops, and wineries to explore such as the Bushmere Estate, TW winery, Bridge Estate and Miltons winery. Both towns are within an hour's drive from Mahaanui Cottage.

For the more adventurous the Rere Rockslide has fascinating geological formations and waterfalls to explore. There are also opportunities in the area for surfing, windsurfing, horseback riding, hiking, kitesurfing, and mountain biking. The leisurely glamper can enjoy swimming, kayaking, fishing, and picnicking on the Hangaroa River from Doneraille Park or from private access available from the property.

Guests can experience the locals' secret waterfall during the summer and there are marked farm walks available for their enjoyment. Farm tours are also possible, if time permits, for NZ $50 per adult.
