Perched on a five-acre hill in the town of Harriman, New York, in the mid-Hudson Valley this 7,000-square-foot estate, built in 1859, offers a truly special getaway. It sits just next to Harriman State Park, the second largest state park in New York as well as the Bear Mountain State Park which lies adjacent to the Hudson River. New York City is located just 39 miles away and can be reached in just under an hours drive. It is also a five-minute drive to the Woodbury Commons shopping outlets and is within close proximity to the West Point Military Academy. Guests will also find the village of Monroe just a five-minute drive away. This is an ideal spot for those traveling from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. There are plenty of grocery stores for guests to stock up on food all within two miles, including Stop and Shop at Monroe Plaza, Shoprite, SuperWalmart, Target, and, Monroe Farms.Activities near Monroe

The town of Harriman, New York is ideally located within short distance to an endless array of fantastic activities to suit every type of guest.
For the wine lovers, there are many wineries and vineyards in the area where guests can sample the exquisite local wine, as well as several breweries for beer and cider tasting. Among those recommended are the Brotherhood Winery, one of the oldest in the USA, Palaia Vineyards, as well as the Newburgh Brewing Company for those who prefer beer to wine.
For those interested in art, the nearby towns have an excellent choice of galleries, guests can check out the Exposures Gallery, Pacem in Terris, the Storm King Art Centre, and take a walk around the charming town of Sugar Loaf, which is an art-lovers haven.
If guests are looking to find some outdoors adventure during their stay, this is the perfect setting. For hiking, guests must visit the Harriman State Park just around the corner, offering eight different hiking trails of varying difficulty and an endless array of wildlife. It is the second largest state park in New York, with over 52,000 acres of land and 235 miles of hiking trails, along with lakes, beaches, boating, fishing, and even ice-skating during the winter. The Sterling Forest Park is another great place, although it is only suitable for more experienced hikers.
Guests who enjoy a round of golf or two can choose from the many golf courses which are located within just ten miles of the property, such as the Mansion Ridge Golf Course, the West Point Golf Course, and the Falkirk Estate and Country Club. The Castle Fun Center is also a great option if the kids want to have a go at miniature golf, along with other fun activities to keep them occupied, such as rock climbing, roller skating, go-karting, and laser tag.
In addition the on-site swimming pool, guests can go for a dip in the crystal clear fresh waters or relax on the sand of Lake Welch and Tiorati Beach, located within the Harriman State Park.
Guests can also go skiing in the nearby Sterling Forest, just a 15-minute drive away, and Mountain Creek resort which offers four peaks and plenty of slopes for each level of skier or snowboarder. As well as hiring skis or a snowboard, guests can try out snow tubing which is a lot of fun. Located just 20 minutes from the property are the Mount Peter and the West Point ski resorts. For outdoor ice-skating, a visit to Bear Mountain or Harriman State Park is highly recommended, or for those with their own ice skates, the duck pond in the town of Monroe offers free skating in the right weather conditions. Alternatively, guests can find an indoor ice rink at the Ice Times Sports Complex in Newburgh.
If a peaceful retreat is what guests are looking for, they will find complete serenity in the Ananda Ashram where they can try out yoga, meditation, dance classes, and attend the spiritual education center. Guests can take a short walk or a car ride to the yoga retreat which is just one mile from the house.
For a bit of retail therapy, guests must check out the popular Woodbury Commons shopping outlets just one mile away, with over 220 stores to choose from. Other attractions include the open-air Museum Village offering an interesting and educational day out, and the Warwick Drive-In Movie Theater which is a definite must-do for a fun and unique evening.
In only a 20-minute drive guests can visit the famous West Point Military Academy where there is the oldest museum in the United States Army, along with concerts, golfing, sporting events, a ski area, and jaw-dropping views.
The surrounding area has several farmers markets for guests to have a look round in the neighboring towns of Monroe, Cornwall, Tuxedo, and Washingtonville where they can sample some of the delicious local produce.
Summer is an ideal time of year to visit Harriman with a plethora of activities to keep everyone entertained. Guests can have a fun-filled day out at the waterparks at Mountain Creek and Splashdown Beach in Fishkill, both within 40 minutes from the house.
The New York Renaissance Fair provides guests with something a little different with entertaining performances throughout the summer months and is located just a ten-minute drive away in Tuxedo, New York. Guests can also choose from other seasonal festivals like the Monroe Cheese Festival in September, and the Forest of Fear, a scary Halloween attraction which runs in October.
