Scenic views
This bed and breakfast lodge is located in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, where it is situated on a three-acre site full of verdant trees, cottage-style gardens, and a peaceful koi pond. The gardens are frequently visited by a variety of birds, including bluebirds, blue jays, bowerbirds, cardinals, doves, hummingbirds, yellow finches, and woodpeckers. Right across the road, guests will find the Lauderdale Lakes—an interconnected series of lakes with 900 acres of surface area in total, full of northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, and walleye.

For the enjoyment of the lake, pontoon and deck boat rentals are available at the Boat House, which is just a six-minute walk away. Another four minutes of walking will bring guests to the Lauderdale Lakes Country Club, where guests can golf right beside Mill Lake. At nearby Pleasant Lake, guests will also enjoy access to a semi-private sandy beach.

The surrounding area abounds with antique shops, flea markets, community theaters, concert venues, restaurants, wineries, orchards, and opportunities for outdoor recreation. About 15 minutes to the east, guests can go downhill skiing and snowboarding at the Alpine Valley Resort. About 13 minutes to the west, guests will find the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest—a 56,000 forest divided into multiple units spread out through southeastern Wisconsin. Altogether, the forest offers 250 miles of hiking trails, 130 miles of horseback riding trails, 150 miles of snowmobiling trails, 100 miles of cross-country skiing trails, and 75 miles of biking trails.

Next to the forest, guests will find more trails at the Clifford F Messinger Dry Prairie and Savanna State Natural Area, which is home to a variety of grasses, flowering plants, and oak trees. The landscape here and in much of the surrounding region is distinguished by kettles and moraines—geological remnants of the mighty glaciers that once made their indelible mark on a landscape that was covered by massive sheets of ice in prehistoric times.

The site is about 50 minutes from Milwaukee, where the nearest international airport is located.
