WELCOME TO THIS VILLA
This villa is the residential estate of Estes Park's first sheriff, grocery store owner and force behind the creation of the road to Estes from Loveland.
This villa entered real estate business to sell lots in Estes Park. He knew that the success of the town as a tourist attraction would be tied to its wildlife. He paid half the expense of stocking the Big Thompson River with trout.
During the late 1800s, elk had been hunted to extinction by hunters that supplied Denver restaurants with elk meat.
Elk were brought in by rail in 1913 and hauled by truck from the railhead in Lyons to the park where they were released.
