Guests can sit and enjoy the sound of the adjacent river rushing feet below while seated at a four-top table and gracefully spit cherry seeds into the river. There are established wildlife corridors for elk and deer. Eagles, red-tailed hawks, and blue herons nest on the property or directly across the river. The river corridor has recently been designated a protected habitat for the western yellow-billed cuckoo: Colorado's newest threatened species. It is a splendid moment when guests and the animal are making eye contact, trying to assess the other's intentions. Glampers can also go fishing, swimming after spring run-off, or just relax by the shore of the river on the hammock. The property has a gently sloping sand beach just downriver of one of the yurts on the riverwalk walkway. The backdrop is a series of mountains that rise dramatically from our valley floor, with Mount Gunnison coyly peeking over the top.
Guests can enjoy seasonal activities like skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and mountain biking within the immediate area of Paonia. Enjoy sipping on high-altitude wine before you drift off to sleep with a belly brimming with locally grown foodstuffs. Neighboring farms also have vineyard walking tours with tasting rooms, and in town, there are shops, restaurants, and type of small stores that disappeared in most of the county. Guests will love trying their hand at mountain biking on Jumbo Mountain or the Grand Mesa (the longest single flat mesa in the world); visiting the Black Canyon National Monument; and fishing or boating on the two large reservoirs within 20 minutes of the property, which bring fishermen from all over the world when the caddisflies hatch. Lastly, Crested Butte, a still unspoiled, old Colorado town, is 90 minutes away, over a stunning pass replete with wildflowers and the largest Aspen Grove in the world.
