The city of Steamboat Springs is hidden away in the hills in northern Colorado’s Yampa Valley and is an absolute haven for any snow fanatics. It’s home to the Howelsen Hill Ski Area and the Steamboat Ski Resort, the latter of which has six mountainous peaks including Mount Werner, which provides majestic skiing in the winter and exhilarating hiking during the summer months. The city’s geothermal hot springs have been said by many to have therapeutic properties, over and above being an incredibly relaxing experience. Near the city center, the long-standing Old Town Hot Springs is equipped with swimming and soaking pools, as well as many water slides.
North of town, In a wooded mountainside setting, the more rustic Strawberry Park Hot Springs, fed by Hot Spring Creek can be found and are considered one of the most spectacular mineral springs in the world. The Yampa River Core Trail, which is a sensational riverside path through town, leads to the Yampa River Botanic Park. The many gardens in the botanic park include the Lily Garden and Spring Bulbs Garden. Just outside town, glampers will find a trail heading east through Routt National Forest to Fish Creek Canyon and the high cascades of Fish Creek Falls. Farther east, the Summit Lake trailhead is an access point to the long-distance Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.
