Scenic views
With 10 acres and 450 feet of lakeshore and stone fence lines that vector deep into the woods, this farm continues to be a serene retreat from a hectic world. This charming lakefront glamping site can be found in the quaint town of Wayne in central Maine, on the shores of Androscoggin Lake. This beautiful New England property features breathtaking water views that will delight guests of all ages. Built in the late 1700's by Japheth Washburn, the farm is one of the original platted properties of Wayne, years before the town was incorporated in 1796. The farm's cattle pastures once covered the eastern hillsides of Lake Androscoggin, comprising several hundred acres. The property has been continuously inhabited for over 200 years. The original owners lived in the farm for three generations until the Lawrence family purchased it in the 1950's. In the 1960's the Lawrence family sold the farm to Nathalie and Rhyno Stinchfield. They lived here for 30 years, until a few years after Rhyno’s death. Nathalie was determined to sell to respectful new owners. W.A.P. John and Julie Ritter became the delighted stewards of this wonderful property in 1997 and have loved and nurtured it ever since.

For the designer and craftsman couple from Ann Arbor, Michigan, the farm has been an ongoing renovation project: originally as a summertime experience for their twin daughters, now as a special place of rest and relaxation for families and small groups. The camp is a special place. It feels like a treehouse over the water—with a little kitchenette, coffee, and drinks always at hand. Guests love to start and end the day at their own speed. With the windows open, and the sound of waves lapping and the occasional loon call, life is good. The farm and camp create the perfect situation for a family with visiting guests.

Located around two beautiful lakes in central Maine, within an hour's drive of mountains and the ocean, Wayne is a wonderful community of about 1,100 year-round residents who live close to nature and embrace the small town fellowship. With the Cary Library, the Community Church, the General Store, and the Ladd Rec Center as touch points in their lives, they honor family, friends both new and old, and tradition.
