Girdwood

Girdwood is a resort town which lies in a valley in the southwestern Chugach Mountains, surrounded by seven glaciers. This privileged position means it is ideal for anybody looking to really experience the best of Alaska. During winter, go skiing and snowboarding at Alyeska Resort, and in summer go hiking, fishing and rafting in the surrounding landscape. The Girdwood Forest Fair, held every July, is well worth a visit, as is the Chugach National Forest - the northernmost rainforest in the world! you can also check out the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center or take a ride on the Alyeska Aerial Tram. The Begich Boggs Visitor Center has a great view of the glaciers and plenty of information on the local area.
