Sutton is a great base for visitors hoping to see attractions like Matanuska Glacier and Sheep Mountain. The town has a long history of coal mining - which has thankfully sopped today - but to learn more about the history head to the Alpine Historical Park, which has numerous preserved historical building, such as the Chickaloon bunkhouse and the original Sutton Post Office from 1948. For those looking for more outdoorsy activities, then you can't miss the lovely Palmer-Moose Creek Railroad Trail, which follows the former railbed between Sutton and Palmer. Keen fishermen should check out the nearby Seventeen Mile Lake as well. And of course, the spectacular Matanuska Glacier State Recreational Site and Sheep Mountain both deserve a thorough exploration.
