Ferndale

Ferndale is a small northern California town lying along the Pacific coast. It’s the northern gateway to the stunningly beautiful Lost Coast, and area that’s great for hiking and exploring. The town was established in 1852, but before then it was occupied by natives and was home to ferns as large as six feet tall. Lots of wild flora still remain, including the coast redwoods, Sitka spruce, and Douglas fir. Local areas like Russ Park are great for hiking and casual nature walks. As a California state historic landmark, tons of Victorian buildings still remain from the 19th century. Intrepid surfers who brave the cold water can head a short distance west to the ocean, and forest lovers can head south to Humboldt Redwoods State Park or east to Shasta-Trinity State Forest. For a great combination of history and outdoor adventure, glampers should head to Ferndale.
