There are many great activities for glampers to enjoy here. On the property, guests can fish for salmon, trout, and whitebait in the river. From the nearby beach, it’s possible to reel in cod. The property’s small shop sells fishing supplies for those who want to try their hand at this. The host also offers the possibility to go horseback riding, for a small fee per person. Kids will love petting the property’s friendly horses, and waking to the sounds of the chickens and roosters, who provide fresh free range eggs for guests to purchase.
Nature lovers will be in their element around 15 miles from the property, where they can discover the Blue Penguin Colony. These are the world’s smallest penguins, and they nest under the cliffs, close to the town of Oamaru. The evening is the best time to visit, as this is when these amazing birds return home from a day’s fishing, and walk up the stone ramp, to the breeding colony. Another fantastic way to learn more about the nature and history of the region is to take the half-hour trip to the Vanished World Centre in Duntroon, where visitors can see unique world-class fossils, including those of ancient whales, dolphins, penguins, and sharks.
Golfing enthusiasts don’t have far to go to get their fix, as there’s an excellent 18-hole course just a 10-minute drive from the property. Fans of outdoor adventure will fall in love with this region, with opportunities nearby for biking, at the Cape Wanbrow Trails, and water sports, in Oamaru Harbour. In the harbor, glampers can take part in paddle boarding, canoeing, and kayaking. Diving and snorkeling are on offer, with the best spots being around Moeraki, which is around 35 miles away. Kakanui, around 20 miles from the property is well-known for its superb surfing, but guests should be sure to hire a wetsuit, as the water can get a little cold.
For those in need of retail therapy, nearby Oamaru has a fine selection of unique stores, where guests can find local products and memorable souvenirs. The town also has a superb choice of restaurants, and several wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Just down the road from the property, guests can dine at the Riverstone Kitchen, which is so good that it’s been voted “New Zealand Restaurant of the Year” twice.
