Originally built as a construction town to build a Hydro Scheme, Twizel is an absolute must for water-lovers. The spectacular blue lakes in the area are great for getting out and exploring and are very popular during the summer months for all sorts of water sports. The Lord of the Rings Twizel Tour is great for those yearning for a taste of Hobbiton. At under an hour from the property, Tekapo Springs at Lake Tekapo offers outdoor hot pools, ice skating, and snow tubing in the winter, as well as spa treatments at the day spa. Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is great for all sorts of outdoor activities, such as hiking, boat tours, and wildlife tours, as well as ski and snow tours in the winter, and air tours too.

At just under two hours away, even more outdoor activities are available in Wanaka, such as a 12,000-foot sky tandem sky dive or ‘funyaking’ on the Dart River. In Omarama, guests can explore the clay cliffs and even experience a glider flight with Glide Omarama. For slightly more relaxed days, Oamaru offers plenty of culture for some sightseeing, and Queenstown and Christchurch offer anything from dining and bars to restaurants and shopping, too.
