45 miles straight-line distance73 kilometers straight-line distanceThis accommodation is set within a historic bed and breakfast estate that is located in Chester Heights, Pennsylvania, where it is perched on top of a hill overlooking the Brandywine Valley. Dating back to 1856, the estate is surrounded by seven acres of landscaped property, presenting guests with a charming mixture of horse pastures, wooden rail fences, majestic trees, lush gardens, stately lawns, a peaceful koi pond with a cascading waterfall, a stone terrace with a nymph fountain, and an English rose and lavender garden path.
In the surrounding Brandywine Valley and Chester County, guests will find an equally splendid countryside of rolling hills, meandering streams, enchanting gardens, state parks, and nature preserves, strewn between which guests will also find a panoply of wineries, breweries, restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, historic sites, museums, and golf courses. Whether they are seeking a getaway to the great outdoors, a rural escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, some indulgence in the finer things of life, or a combination of the three, guests will find plenty of options within a short distance from the estate, some highlights of which are described below.
At Ridley Creek State Park, guests can explore 13 miles of multi-use trails that wind through 2,600 acres of meadows, wetlands, a creek corridor, and an assortment of old-growth and new-growth forests filled with beech, hickory, maple, sycamore, tulip poplar, and walnut trees, some of which date all the way back to colonial times. These environments, in turn, provide habitats for white-tailed deer, foxes, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, great blue herons, pileated woodpeckers, and a large variety of songbirds. Another 17 miles of hiking trails can be found at the adjacent Tyler Arboretum, which, together with the park, have been designated by the Audubon Society as an Important Bird Area.
At the park, guests will also find the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, which has been in operation for more than 300 years and today provides visitors with an opportunity to experience farm life in the pre-American Revolution era. For more trails that run through woodland, wetland, and meadow environments, guests can visit the nearby Wawa Preserve and Brandywine Creek State Park.
At Longwood Gardens, guests can stroll through 1,077 acres of diverse gardens, arboretums, and meadows, along with a variety of conservatories. Gardens can also be found around some of the area's cultural and historical attractions, such as the Hagley Museum, the Nemours Mansion, the Newlin Grist Mill, and the Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library. Other historical and cultural attractions in the area include the Brandywine Battlefield, Valley Forge National Park, and the Brandywine River Museum. A number of restaurants can be found in the nearby town of Media, while half a dozen wineries are set along the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail.
The estate is only 35 minutes away from Philadelphia, where guests will find the nearest international airport, along with numerous attractions, such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.Activities near Chester Heights
