New

This Mountain Retreat sits on 25 private acres in the Nooksack River valley, nestled at the foot of the North Cascades near Maple Falls, Washington. This is a place where old-growth cedar meets open sky, where the only sounds at night are the creek below the ridge and the wind moving through the trees. If you've been looking for somewhere to truly unplug, gather your people, and remember what matters — you found it.

THE PROPERTY

The main lodge is a 6,000-square-foot handcrafted mountain home built with the intention of hosting. Seven bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and enough common space that fourteen guests can spread out without feeling crowded — and come together when they want to. The great room anchors the home: vaulted ceilings, a massive stone fireplace, a baby grand Steinway piano, and floor-to-ceiling windows framing the forest. There's nothing quite like gathering here after a day on the mountain, fire crackling, someone at the piano, glasses full.

THE TREEHOUSE SAUNA

The crown jewel of this Mountain retreat is the cedar-barrel treehouse sauna, perched in the trees above the creek ravine. This isn't a standard backyard sauna — it's a fully elevated structure built on Douglas fir posts, designed and hand-built by Mike over the course of two years, accessed via a switchback cedar staircase with views into the forest canopy on the way up. Inside: a custom cedar barrel seating eight, electric heater, ambient lighting, and a small changing room. Outside: a wrap-around deck with Adirondack chairs, string lights strung through the branches, and the kind of silence that reminds you what rest actually feels like.

It runs year-round. There is no reservation window — the sauna is yours for the full duration of your stay, any hour you want it. In winter the deck is surrounded by snow-draped firs and the air outside bites hard and clean. In summer the canopy is dense and green and alive with sound. Guests mention this more than any other feature — the detail that turns a nice mountain rental into something people talk about for years.

THE LODGE — INSIDE

The main floor is organized around gathering. The great room opens into a dining area with a table that seats fourteen and a full chef's kitchen: six-burner gas range, double wall ovens, two full refrigerators, coffee station, and ample prep space for a group cooking together. Breakfast for fourteen, holiday dinners, birthday cakes from scratch — this kitchen handles it all without bottleneck.

The living room fireplace is wood-burning and fully operational. Firewood is stocked and provided for every stay. A separate den with its own fireplace and built-in bookshelves offers a quieter retreat. The billiard room has a regulation pool table, a full bar, and its own gas fireplace — it becomes the late-night center of gravity for almost every group. There's also a dedicated game room with board games and cards, and a home theater for movie nights.

The Steinway baby grand in the great room is tuned and fully playable. Guests who sit down at it have been known to spend entire evenings there. There's something about a mountain lodge, a stone fireplace, and a concert-quality piano that creates moments you don't plan and don't forget.

THE BEDROOMS

All seven bedrooms are distinct in character. The master suite occupies the top floor: king bed, wood-burning fireplace, sitting area with reading chairs, private ensuite bath with a deep soaking tub, and private access to the upper deck with tree canopy views. It's the kind of room where you stay in until noon.

The main level includes a second king suite with direct deck access — ideal for the second couple or a family wanting ground-floor ease. Two queen rooms provide comfortable private retreats with natural light. Two bunk rooms are designed for kids or younger adults — full-size bunks, individual reading lights, and space for gear. A seventh room with a double bed serves as a flex option: writers' retreat, couples' overflow, or the quiet room for whoever needs separation from fourteen people. All bedrooms have quality linens and blackout curtains. The bathrooms include the master ensuite, two full hall bathrooms, and a powder room on the main floor — enough that a morning routine for fourteen people doesn't become a scheduling event.

CEDAR HALL

Attached to the main lodge via a covered breezeway is Cedar Hall — an 840-square-foot dedicated flex space with cedar paneling, vaulted ceilings, a separate exterior entrance, and a private restroom. Configure it for yoga or movement practice, corporate presentations, workshops, ceremonies, long-format dinners, or creative retreats. It opens onto its own patio and functions independently from the main house. If your group is gathering with a purpose — something to create, practice, or celebrate with structure — Cedar Hall is the room that makes it possible. It's one of the details that makes this Mountain retreat uniquely suited to groups who want to do something, not just rest somewhere.

THE LAND

Twenty-five acres of private mountain land surround the lodge: old-growth Douglas fir and cedar forest, a creek ravine that runs year-round, open meadow areas above the lodge, and ridge views of the North Cascades when the tree line breaks. Designated fire pit areas seat the full group. The sound of the creek carries up through the trees on still evenings. Wildlife is frequent — deer at dusk, eagles overhead, and elk on the ridge above on lucky mornings.

The property trails are unmarked and exploratory — genuine Pacific Northwest wilderness where you set your own pace and direction. The ravine path down to the creek is a favorite first walk. The upper meadow above the lodge catches the last hour of afternoon light and the alpenglow off the eastern peaks. At night, no other structure or light is visible from any point on the property.

THE LOCATION

The home is located just outside Maple Falls, Washington — 90 minutes east of Seattle, 45 minutes east of Bellingham, in the heart of Mt. Baker country.

MT. BAKER SKI AREA — 52 minutes from the driveway. One of the deepest snowpack ski areas in North America, with record-breaking average annual snowfall. The terrain ranges from beginner runs to expert chutes. Baker is also open in summer for the Artist Point loop, one of the signature wildflower hikes in Washington state, with meadows and glacier views above the snowline.

NOOKSACK FALLS — 20 minutes away. A 170-foot waterfall plunging through a narrow basalt canyon, accessible via a short walk from the highway. Thunderous in spring snowmelt, quietly powerful in fall. A true local landmark.

CHURCH MOUNTAIN — 30 minutes from the property. A 10-mile round-trip hike gaining 3,600 feet through old-growth forest to exposed alpine ridgeline with panoramic views of the North Cascades and Nooksack Valley. This is where the owners, Mike and Angie, renewed their wedding vows at the summit. The climb is demanding and the reward is earned.

NORTH FORK BREWERY — 20 minutes in Glacier, WA. Wood-fired pizza, a rotating craft tap list, taxidermy on the walls, and the warmth that only exists in remote mountain towns. The perfect après-ski stop.

BELLINGHAM — 45 minutes south. A genuine Pacific Northwest city with excellent independent restaurants, boutique shopping in Fairhaven Village, a strong arts scene, and Whatcom Falls Park within city limits.

CANADA — The US-Canada border at Sumas is 15 minutes away. Abbotsford, BC is just across. The Rocky Mountaineer connects to Vancouver for those wanting a day trip on the rails. Two countries, one stay.

THE OWNERS

This Mountain retreat was built and is personally hosted by Mike and Angie Hughes. Mike grew up hiking these mountains. A background in endurance sports — ultramarathons and ironman racing — gave him both the discipline to build a property like this and a deep respect for what wilderness does to a person. Angie has spent years creating spaces where people feel genuinely welcome. Together they built this retreat not as an investment, but as the place they always wanted to bring their people. The sign at the entrance reads: Restore · Reconnect · Rise. They put it there for guests. It's also what this place does.

They live nearby and are directly involved in every stay. No property management company — direct contact with the people who know this place best. They can tell you which trail fits your group's fitness level, which aspects are skiing at Baker, and what to order at North Fork.

WHO COMES HERE

Corporate teams doing meaningful annual offsites. Families celebrating 50th birthdays, anniversaries, and multi-generation reunions where grandparents and grandchildren share a kitchen for three days. Friend groups finally taking the trip they've been planning for years. Yoga and wellness facilitators leading private retreats who need a beautiful space that doesn't feel institutional. Couples eloping or renewing vows in the mountains. Writers and musicians needing days of silence and space. Athletes chasing powder at Baker and summit days on Church Mountain.

If your group wants to leave different than you arrived — more present, more connected, more rested, more alive — this is built for exactly that.
