######## NOTES ########
There are several ways to get wet in Big East Fork Valley.

All registered guests may visit Lake Gratitude and use watercraft provided by staff of the Center for Sustainable Stewardship (CSS, mi 0.0). CSS accepts donations in exchange for maintaining canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, paddle boats, oars, lifejackets, and even bicycles. Please make an appointment with CSS and sign their waver to gain entry to Lake Gratitude and its trails and to obtain your equipment. Swimming in NOT permitted.

Fork Inn guests may access to one or more of our large hot tubs located at The Retreat, Southern Hospitality Ranch, and the McPherson Farmhouse. These hot tubs can serve as pools for 4 to 6 people. The hot tub at The Fork Inn is always available to our registered guests by appointment. The sauna and hot tub at the Retreat and Southern Hospitality Ranch are available by appointment when not being rented by a private party. For those hankering for an authentic country experience, four 300 gallon mobile stock tank pools which can be filled with sweet (or even sulphurous) spring water. Pools can be set up at any property (aaah the fun!) as well as at the Overlook or a private meadow/forest clearing (aaah the romance!).

The Big East Fork Valley is a pristine watershed and there are several areas for dipping in the natural waters of our stream. Love Shack Falls (mi 2.4 SE) runs best after a good rain. The upstream dipping hole is located along the Upper Creek Trail behind the Retreat (mi 0.2 S) and the downstream dipping hole is a short walk from the bicyclist parking lot (mi 0.1 S). Several small rocky beaches for sunning and catching crawfish, small fish, and other creek critters lie along the creek. Poisonous critters (water moccassins, cottonmouths, bees and wasps) and obnoxious plants (poison ivy, thorny greenbriars) are present so do take necessary precautions. Thin rocky beaches are McPherson Beach (mi 1.9 N), Flatrock Beach - home of the Crack-in-the -Creek (mi 2.0 N), Hemp Beach (mi 2.4 N), and LeeAnnes Beach (mi 3.0). Walking along the creek is a very special experience for a couple or the entire family. Bring your creek shoes!

TRASH. Please don’t dump on us! There is no trash collection in Big East Fork Valley. Someone has to remove the trash and take it to the dump or to town. If you do this yourself, your entire Community Fee Trash Deposit will be returned to you. If you leave any un-bagged trash in the house or trash cans, you will forfeit your Community Trash Deposit Fee. If you leave bagged trash in the outside trash receptacles, you will be charged $5 per bag for its proper disposal. This can really add up! You may contract to have your bagged trash removed by a private party (A list of trash removers is on our web-site, which is accessible to you after making your reservation).

One of the best ways to reduce the volume of your trash is to separate organic materials that we may compost to make soil for our gardens. If you are checking out on noon Sunday, come bring your usable food, drink, and spirit to the Center for Sustainable Stewardship’s Community Brunch, held every Sunday noon at the CSS Farm, 5400 Big East Fork Rd. Meet, greet, and express gratitude to the people who have worked hard to make your stay memorable. It takes a village to prepare and maintain our valley and its houses. Meet the Chief Steward and members of CSS who maintain the trails, take care of watercraft, groom the hiking trails, and care for the farm animals. And meet the Fork Inn team that landscape the houses, clean the rooms, prepare the laundry, and service our guests to give them the unique experiences found in the Big East Fork Valley.

So only place properly bagged garbage in garbage bins. Do not place garbage directly in large garbage receptacles unless it has been bagged. NO UNBAGGED TRASH in our large waste containers or grounds. There will be a $100 extra charge if we have to bag any trash.

Don’t place trash outside of bins making it accessible to hungry critters. Best is to put compostable organics in the black compost buckets. We LOVE composting and making soil !

GUEST MUST KEEP HOUSE IN THE SAME CONDITION AS RECEIVED, with the exception that linens/towels. The guest is responsible for cleaning grills and ovens if they are made greasy/dirty. Excess trash or cleaning or not leaving furniture/carpets in their places may result in a portion of your security deposit being with-held. Don’t place trash outside of bins making it accessible to hungry critters. Use of confetti, candles, fireplace and outside fire pits, or moving of furniture are strictly prohibited without written permission of owner. No underage drinking of alcohol. Bachelore(ette) and other "high-risk" parties may require additional (fully-refundable) cash deposit. EXTRA CLEANING necessary by failure of guest to clean up after occupancy will be charged to the guest.

Winter rule: Propane usage in excess of $100 per day will be paid by the guest. Please keep windows and doors closed in cool weather and do not raise temperature above 70 degrees. Help us keep our energy usage (and cost to our guests) sustainable!

Your stay at the Lodging does not include access to the nearby Retreat Center or permission to hike the Center for Sustinable Stewardship's private trail system. Contact CSS for access to the lake and trails, as well as event space rentals.
