In the summer, New Jersey has a wide range of beach experiences, from tranquil to bustling. Island Beach State Park, with the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay on either side, is one of the few undeveloped barrier beaches with more than 2,000 acres of trails to hike, beaches for swimming and surfing, and vantage points for birdwatching. Resort towns like Seaside Heights and Cape May have visitors all year long and are famous for their boardwalks. New Jersey’s weather is typical of the mid-Atlantic, New England regions of the United States. New Jersey has four distinct seasons, with hot and humid summers and cold winters with some snow. Popular times to visit the beaches along the Jersey Shore or go hiking in state parks is usually during the summer months, from June through August/September. During the summer, temperatures range from lows around 60°F to highs around 85/90°F. In the winters, the weather gets cold and New Jersey has lows around 20°F and highs around 45°F.
