Custer

Often claimed to be the earliest European settlement in the Dakotas, the former mining town of Custer, South Dakota, is strategically located to allow glampers to explore some of the greatest attractions in the Mount Rushmore State’s famous Black Hills. With Mount Rushmore itself and the Crazy Horse Memorial, due to be the largest sculpture in the world once completed, both nearby, fans of monumental statues will have no complaints, nor will wildlife lovers. Nearby Custer State Park offers nature enthusiasts bison herds, cougars, and prairie dog “towns”, while the Wind Cave National Park contains one of the world’s deepest and most mysterious caves, said to “breathe” as air flows in and out due to changes in atmospheric pressure. For history buffs, the town is only an hour from historic Deadwood, whose list of former inhabitants sounds like a roll call of Wild West history.
