There are benign mud volcanoes, a lake, and a trip up to the historic Maori Pa Site Whaitiripapa Pa, which leads on to historic Maori gardens. For some offsite adventures, guests can head to the coast and have a go at some surfing. For beginners, there are numerous reputable surf schools. Only 40 minutes drive away is Rere Falls.
